Nathan Jones expressed his frustration as his team fell to a 5-1 defeat to Southampton at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.
The Addicks found themselves four goals down inside 22 minutes, a highly unusual occurrence for Nathan Jones’ team, as Saints handed Charlton just a second home defeat of 2025.
“We came up against an outstanding team, [in Southampton] and they were outstanding for about 20-25 minutes. They were as good a team we have seen here at The Valley since I have been here,” Jones said. "Let’s give Southampton credit and let’s not let it happen again.”
“What we are normally better at is making sure they do the basics well, and that we are aggressive, and we weren’t that today.
“Southampton are in a false position for whatever reason, and they turned up today. That’s a learning curve for us.”
The Addicks are back in action on Tuesday as they travel away to Stoke City.
Jones said: “We want a reaction on Tuesday, this is against the grain, this is not something we are used to doing.
"We are stretched, we had three fit defenders today, as one of them can’t play, we are patching up at the minute. We are a that stage in the season where we just have to come through it.”
Charlton are back at The Valley on December 6th for the visit of Portsmouth. Click here to purchase your tickets.
