Docherty: "It is up to us to rectify it"

Captain Greg Docherty voiced his disappointment following Charlton’s 5–1 defeat to Southampton at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The loss was just the Addicks' second at The Valley in 2025.

“Today was really difficult, and it was hard to tell you what went wrong. A lot went wrong and did go wrong,” the skipper said. “I apologise for the people that came and watched us today, the fans didn’t deserve that. This place [The Valley] has been brilliant, it has drawn us over the line, we massively let ourselves down and let the fans down.”

“As players we will take [the loss] on the chin and rightly so we will get criticised for it,” Docherty added.

“I can’t give you an answer why today happened. It is up to us as players to rectify it.”

The Addicks travel to Stoke City on Tuesday evening. “Tuesday is going to be a tough game, one we need to go and rectify, Tuesday is a really big game for us.”
