Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm that nine young players have signed scholarship forms with the club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The two-year scholarship programme will enable them to benefit from extra contact time on the football pitch as well as support in the classroom.
The following players - some of whom have already featured for the club's U18s team - have penned scholarship terms:
- Jude Sadler
- Luke Ashburn
- Ethan Cann
- Ibrahim Fullah
- Alan Mwamba
- Micah Mbick
- Joshua Ogunnowo
- Jacob Safa
- Manu Wales
Professional Development Coach Chris Lock said: “The new in-take of scholars are a very exciting and talented group. There’s a lot of different attributes within the group as well. For the club, it’s just going to be a continuation of what we’ve seen so far in terms of the type of player that we create here at Charlton. There’s no one type; you don’t really look at it and say, ‘that’s a Charlton Athletic player’, because we create players that can play at all different levels of the game.
“The U16s group that are now coming up to be scholars are just another example of that. We’ve got some technically-gifted players and we’ve got some real warrior-type footballers within that group. Again, we’ve got a fantastic goalkeeper in that group as well. Next year, in terms of us as a department from U17s to U21s, there’s going to be 10 additions which are only going to benefit the group.”
