Tuesday’s tie comes too soon for Aaron Henry (knee) and Chuks Aneke (calf), while Sean Clare (illness) will be assessed.

Assistant Coach Scott Marshall confirmed Albie Morgan and Corey Blackett-Taylor are both available for selection after the duo were absent from the Addicks’ matchday squad on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Tommy Smith (foot) and Emyr Huws (ankle) remain sidelined for the hosts.

Colchester currently sit 21st in Sky Bet League Two having taken six points from their opening 11 fixtures in the fourth tier.

The U’s come into the clash on the back of a 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon last time out in what was head coach Matt Bloomfield’s first game in charge.

Lee Swabey will oversee proceedings on Tuesday. The official last refereed a Charlton fixture in January – a 1-0 Papa John’s Trophy win over MK Dons at The Valley.

Swabey will be assisted by Paul Yates and Michael George, while Michael Robertson-Tant is the Fourth Official.

Charlton and Colchester have squared off on 18 previous occasions with the Addicks winning seven, the U’s seven and the remaining four encounters resulting in draws.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides came at the JobServe Community Stadium in November 2016 in this same competition. Nicky Ajose fired the Addicks ahead on 32 minutes before Macauley Bonne levelled and the hosts subsequently won 4-3 on penalties.

The Addicks will be sporting their red home kit in Essex.
