Steve Sutherland OBE named Club Ambassador

Charlton Athletic are pleased to announce Steve Sutherland OBE as a new Club Ambassador after stepping back from his day-to-day role.

Sutherland returned to The Valley in the summer of 2023 for his third spell in the club’s commercial team, having first joined as Commercial Manager in 1988. Following nine years with the Football League and a season at Swindon Town, he rejoined the club in 2000, first as CEO Peter Varney’s assistant and then as Commercial Director until 2009.

In his new ambassadorial role, Sutherland, who was awarded an OBE for services to sport in June 2025, will have a regular presence within the hospitality lounges at The Valley on matchdays and will attend events on behalf of the club.

Sutherland is also a Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) Ambassador and continues to support a wide range of CACT's work and events following his long association with the club’s charitable arm - including having co-founded the Street Violence Ruins Lives campaign with CACT's Chief Executive Jason Morgan MBE.

"Charlton Athletic has been and still is a major part of both my professional and my personal life, so to be appointed as an ambassador means a lot to me," said Sutherland. "I'm particularly proud of the fact I'll now be an ambassador of both Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Community Trust."

Everyone at the club would like to thank Steve for his 14 years of dedicated service and wish him well in his new ambassadorial role.
