U18s crowned PDL2-South champions

Charlton’s U18s sealed the Professional Development League 2 - South title on Saturday following a 3-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at Sparrows Lane.

Following a goalless first half, the young Addicks broke the deadlock on 53 minutes.

Shia-Lee Burnham broke clear of the Fleetwood defence but was brought down inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Ellis McMillan stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick to give Charlton the lead.

Phoenix Valentine doubled the Addicks’ advantage on 76 minutes, as he tapped home a shot that had been spilled by Fleetwood’s Gio Minopoli.

Fleetwood had a gilt-edged chance to half the deficit moments later, but Fawaz Junaid dragged his effort wide of the post.

Zaion Christian capped off a fine afternoon for the young Addicks with a well-taken goal, thanks to some excellent work from Burnham on the left-hand side.

Pearce's champions are next in action on Tuesday when they host Cardiff City at Sparrows Lane (KO 1.30pm BST).
