Tonbridge Angels 5 Charlton Athletic 1

A youthful Charlton U21 side suffered defeat in their first pre-season friendly against Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday evening.

The young Addicks were without several players who are away with the men's first-team for their pre-season training camp in Spain.

Tonbridge were quick out of the blocks and very nearly took an early lead but for Keenan Gough, who produced a crucial block to deny a certain goal.

Chris Lock's side created their first opening of the evening moments later when Ryan Huke fed Henry Rylah, who cut inside and forced the Angels' stopper to make a save.

The hosts continued to threaten and this time it was Josh Laqeretabua's heroics which kept the scores level, the defender denying Tonbridge's forward with an outstanding last-ditch tackle.

The Vanarama National League South side broke the deadlock on 27 minutes through Joe Boachie, whose audacious back heel crept in at the near post following neat wing play from Ruben Soares-Junior.

Ollie Hobden then drilled over from a tight angle after pouncing on a loose ball.

Lock made seven changes during the interval and, within two minutes of the restart, Ryan Viggars levelled proceedings, turning home Harmony Okwumo's square ball.

The hosts soon regained the lead against the run of play when Soares-Junior tapped in from close range.

Tommie Fagg scored the Angels' third 12 minutes later, nodding home at the back post.

Soares-Junior was given a golden opportunity to net his second and Tonbridge's fourth when Okwumo was penalised for handball. The forward made no mistake from 12 yards, sending a superb Panenka past the Charlton stopper.

Fagg bagged his brace nine minutes from time with another close-range header as the hosts ran out 5-1 victors.
