U21 REPORT | Charlton 2 Colchester United 2

'

Charlton's U21s were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Colchester United at The Valley after being pegged back twice.

Raynon Richman fired the young Addicks before Adrian Akande brought the visitors level just before the break.

A Fela Abidekun own goal restored Charlton's lead, only for Kai Martin to snatch a second leveller for the U's from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Chris Lock's side made a fast start in SE7 and enjoyed an early chance as Kaheim Dixon drove into the box and cut the ball back for Richman, who shot over from a tight angle.

Richman did convert on 33 minutes, this time slotting home following a brilliant run forward from Josh Hebert.

Moments later, the young Addicks almost had a second as Reuben Amissah's free-kick rattled the crossbar before Richman's follow-up header was well saved by Frankie Beckles.

With half-time looming, the visitors got an equaliser through Akanade, who converted Milton Oni's centre.

Charlton regained their advantage nine minutes into the second period when Alan Mwamba's dangerous ball was turned into his own net by Abidekun, with Dixon ready to poke home at the far post.

The young Addicks sought to increase their lead thereafter, but it was the U's who scored next to snatch a late leveller. After Hebert was adjudged to have fouled Istan Henry by referee Adam Merchant, Martin sent his spot-kick past George Hardy to claim a point in SE7.

The U21s are next in action on Monday, travelling to Vicarage Road to take on Watford in their final fixture of the regular season (KO 1pm BST).
