Charlton' U21s secured a second win on the bounce thanks to a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Peterborough United at Princes Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The young Addicks started brightly in the opening exchanges and opened the scoring on 12 minutes through Kaheim Dixon with an excellent solo effort.
Dixon received the ball in the middle of the park and ran through the Posh defence, slotting his effort past Bastian Smith in goal.
Minutes later, Trialist ran down the right-hand side and sent a searching ball into the box. Dixon was at the back post to meet it, and double Charlton’s advantage inside the first 20 minutes.
On 25 minutes, Peterborough pulled a goal back, as Lucca Mendonca headed home a corner.
Finley Woodham was called into action on numerous occasions in the first half as he pulled off a series of fine saves to keep his team ahead.
Meanwhile, Alan Mwamba restored Charlton’s two goal cushion minutes before half-time, with a stellar finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to see Chris Lock’s side leading 3-1 at the break.
The visitors hit the post from a free-kick, as they searched for a way back into the game in the second period.
Then came an opportunity for the hosts to counter, led by Bradley Tagoe. The winger did brilliantly to find Trialist in some space inside the penalty area and he drilled the ball into the net to give the young Addicks a 4-1 lead.
The Posh did find a way back into the game as Edward Fox reduced the scoreline to 4-2 with less than 20 minutes to play.
But Charlton would race back ahead with a three-goal lead by adding a fifth late on. Reuben Amissah fired an excellent strike home from the edge of the box to round off the scoring for Chris Lock’s side, as the game ended 5-2 in Dartord.
The young Addicks are next in action on Friday, April 3rd as they take on AFC Bournemouth’s U21s at Sparrows Lane (KO 1.30pm BST)
