U18S REPORT | Charlton 5 Queens Park Rangers 2

Olly Groome reports

Charlton U18s continued their fine form by recording a London derby victory against Queens Park Rangers at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.

The young Addicks found themselves two goals up inside 26 minutes thanks to goals from Alex Willis and Albie Morgan.

The first came with 13 minutes on the clock when Willis rounded off a swift counter attack, cleverly lifting the ball over the advancing keeper, who got a palm on it, but could only watch as it bounced over the line.

Morgan’s strike came in some style with the midfielder firing an unstoppable first-time effort into the top left-hand corner from 20 yards following some fine build-up play.

Charlton were seemingly comfortable until the 62nd minute when QPR staged a comeback. Samuel Kifwasima halved the deficit when he finished from close range, before an own goal drew the visitors level on 71 minutes.

The hosts would not be denied, however, and struck three times in the last eight minutes to seal an impressive victory.

First, Willis claimed his brace when he stooped to head the ball over the line from close range, before Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu firmly dispatched a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box.

Moments later, Sarpong-Wiredu doubled up, finishing calmly past the stopper to make it five and stretch the young Addicks’ unbeaten league run to 13 games with 12 wins and one draw under their belt.
