Bowyer on Robinson: "He's very good, I'm very excited about this season"

Lee Bowyer has said that learning from Karl Robinson was a key reason why he returned to the club he began his playing career at.

The Charlton Athletic assistant manager was this month’s guest on Valley Stories, a feature length interview available now on Valley Pass. A matchday pass for the club’s video and audio subscription service is available for just £4 and is available here.

The former England international said of his return to the Addicks: “It’s like a fairy tale really, where I first started playing and this is my first coaching role.

“All I want to do is just pass on the knowledge that I was fortunate to pick up from the players and the managers that I played with and to learn from Karl because he’s very good.

“His attention to detail, the way he puts stuff across is probably up there with and better than a lot of the top managers I’ve played with. Obviously the technology is a lot different now but he’s very good and I’m very excited about this season.”

Bowyer initially re-joined Charlton to help with the coaching last season and was appointed assistant manager in the summer.

In the Valley Stories interview he talked about his favourite goals, his record for bookings, scoring against Millwall and which player’s boots he cleaned (and forgot) as a youngster.

In Valley Stories style he finished by selecting an all-time Charlton XI that he played with and against.
