Bowyer: "We'll bounce back next week"

A disappointed Lee Bowyer insisted that his side will bounce back following the disappointing 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Ched Evans scored the only goal of the game in the second half, while Patrick Bauer was dismissed for a second yellow card late on in a frustrating afternoon in Lancashire.

But the Addicks boss said that, despite the disappointment, his squad will show what they’re really about when Charlton return to The Valley against Southend United next weekend.

“It was bad from start to finish and it’s not like us,” he said.

“We’ve been good all season and this is one of those bad ones that we’re just going to have to forget and move on as quick as possible, and we will. We’ve got two home games coming up and we have to win them both.

“I know what we have to do. We have to win games,” continued Bowyer.

“To do that you need to keep clean sheets and score goals so we’ll keep working at that and, with our fans back home next Saturday, things will be different, I’m sure.”

Meanwhile, Bowyer was pleased to see Igor Vetokele make his long-awaited return from injury off the bench, but admits that he has to work hard to return to peak fitness.

“It was good to see him back, but we’re going to have to work hard with him now,” he explained.

“He has to get fit as quickly as possible because we don’t have many options now. The quicker we can get him fit, the better for everybody.

“We got what we deserved and that’s nothing,” added Bowyer.

“We leave disappointed with no points, but we didn’t deserve to win the game. We carried too many people today and that’s the truth.

“We have to work hard next week in training and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’m disappointed because we don’t see that very often from them. I didn’t go mad because I know it’s hurt them as much as it’s hurt me. It just disappoints me.”
