Brendan Wiredu on his pre-season and aims for the campaign

Speaking after Charlton’s 2-1 friendly win over Colchester United on Tuesday night, Brendan Wiredu spoke to Valley Pass about his deflected winning goal, his pre-season and what he hopes to achieve in the upcoming campaign...

On his winner at Colchester…

“It's 100% my goal, I’m taking that! I got myself into a good area, it was a good cross by Alfie [Doughty] and I scored, so I couldn’t be happier.”

On his successful pre-season…

“It’s the positions that I’m picking myself up in. It’s about finding the time to get composed and that’s something I worked a lot on in the off season so that I come back and get myself into positions and stay composed and score the goals.

“As a whole team, we’re all learning and working hard all week to get to where we are. It’s a team that’s just been promoted and for me I’m just trying to make a claim to be in and around the squad.”

On his preferred position and aims for the season…

“My preferred position is anywhere the manager plays me! I just want to play as many games as I can. It’s about getting on the pitch and I just want to get on the pitch and play and prove my worth.

"Week in, week out, we have to go out there and prove ourselves to the manager in training. We have to train the way we play so that he can trust us."
