Lee Bowyer was full of praise for goalscorers Albie Morgan and Omar Bogle following Charlton’s 2-0 win at Ipswich Town.
Both players scored their first league goals for the club and the Charlton Manager praised their workrates and commitment to the team.
He said: “There were some great performances. I’m pleased for Omar, pleased for Albie. That is why I was resting Albie on Tuesday. He wouldn’t have been able to do what he did today, his first league goal. He deserved it, he’s come a long way. I keep saying it, I always praise people that put in the hard work and Albie’s definitely one of them. Things are starting to finally sink in with him.

“Omar, coming off the bench, it was tough for him Tuesday [against Burton Albion]. I spoke to him yesterday and told him that he would need to be ready, it’s his first goal as well.
“All the other strikers had scored and he was the only one that hadn’t and I felt for him because he works so hard for the team and he’s getting bruises and batterings during those first 60 minutes before Chuks comes off the bench. A lot of that hard work goes unnoticed. I noticed it but a lot of people wouldn’t notice what he does for the team, so I am really pleased for him. There are a lot of players working very, very hard, so I am delighted.”
The win was the Addicks seventh in nine games and also their sixth clean sheet in those nine games and Bowyer was pleased to see a reaction from his team after Tuesday’s loss.
He said: “I thought from start to finish we were excellent. It was another good, solid, away performance. A clean sheet, scored two. The only thing I’d criticise, if I am being ultra-picky, is that we should have scored more. We got in and around their box a lot and when we did, we didn’t take care as well as I would have liked. If we would have we would have scored at least another two or three goals.”
The Addicks are back in action against MK Dons at The Valley on Wednesday and Bowyer can’t wait.
“We’re moving in the right direction,” he said “there is a long way to go. I am looking forward to Wednesday, to getting back home, it feels like we’ve been on the road for a long time.”
Charlton will be without Ian Maatsen on Wednesday, who picked up his fifth yellow card, but Bowyer admitted it may not be a bad time for the youngster to be rested and added that he was impressed with Ben Purrington’s appearance from the bench, with the left back likely to step in for Maatsen in midweek.
Bowyer also confirmed that Conor Washington’s injury is minor and he could be back in the squad on Wednesday, while Paul Smyth, who was substituted during the game, came off because of a nasty gash.
