Charlton and Sunderland set League One virtual attendance record

Charlton Athletic and Sunderland joined forces to set a virtual attendance record for League One on Saturday with more than 14,000 UK passes sold for Saturday’s game smashing the previous record of 10,363.

The Addicks sold a club-record 5,795 passes in the UK for the game and including international support the number of purchases through Charlton TV’s Valley Pass Live far surpassed 6,000.

Commercial Director Wayne Mumford said: “We’d like to thank all the Charlton fans for tuning in on Saturday and hopefully you all enjoyed the show and an excellent performance by the first team. It shows how big that these two clubs are that we were able to beat the League One record so comfortably.”

When the two sides met at The Valley in September a combined 7,744 passes were sold. Since then both sides are under new ownership, with new streaming services.

Mumford added: “Both clubs have been on a real journey in recent years and the fact that for Saturday’s game we nearly doubled the amount of passes sold for our game in September shows that Charlton and Sunderland are heading in the right direction.”

As part of the club's '10K Giveaway' competition, a total of 11 supporters came away with prizes after purchasing their live stream for the game.
