U18S REPORT | Charlton 5 Hull City 1

Charlton’s U18s cruised to victory over Hull City on Saturday, recording an emphatic 5-1 win at Sparrows Lane.

The young Addicks dominated from start to finish and soon found themselves in front after just eight minutes thanks to Daniel Kanu.

An excellent passing move resulted in Karoy Anderson threading a brilliant through-ball for Kanu to penetrate the Tigers defence and round the keeper. Despite finding himself at a tight angle and with a pair of defenders back to cover, the striker still managed to find the back of the net with a calm finish.

Charlton’s press proved effective against the visitors and Kanu was involved again when Mack Reilly doubled the lead on 22 minutes.

The opening goalscorer forced the Tigers back and pounced on a defender on the edge of his box to take possession, hold up the ball with a neat turn and lay off Reilly who firmly finished into the bottom right-hand corner.

Hull pulled a goal back on the half-hour mark but it was all Charlton’s own doing. Some hesitation from keeper Ahmed Kone in his own box le to him being dispossessed, giving a Tigers’ forward the easy job of scoring into an empty net.

Nine minutes later, however, the two-goal lead was restored thanks to an own goal – Reilly’s driven ball across the face of goal turned in by a visiting defender.

The Addicks continued to impress after the break and Tolu Ladapo added a fourth just before the hour mark. Picking up the ball on the right, he drove into the box, brushed past two defender and thumped a shot past the keeper to put his side in total control of the contest.

With 18 minutes left on the clock, Reilly bagged his brace, adding some gloss to the scoreline to make it 5-1.

A free-kick delivery from the right-hand side was delivered with precision and Reilly was on hand to head home.

In truth, it could well have been a lot more with a host of chances coming and going for the hosts, but it was a deserved result nevertheless as the young Addicks celebrate a second win of the campaign.
