The club’s drive to Fill the Valley, a campaign launched in November ahead of the home win against Plymouth Argyle, has seen attendance figures rise at The Valley this season which has been very pleasing to see and much appreciated by everyone at the club including Johnnie Jackson and his players.
The campaign continues with season-ticket holders and half season-ticket holders currently being offered additional match tickets for this weekend’s home game against Fleetwood Town on a 'buy one, get one free' basis, once again giving season-ticket holders the opportunity bring fellow Charlton supporting friends or family members with them to a home match.
Owner, Thomas Sandgaard, explained: “We’ve been really pleased with the initial success of the #FillTheValley initiative during a period which has also seen the team win three of the four home games played since it began. The support the players receive on matchday is vital to them and I’d like to pass on my thanks to our season ticket holders for their continued support and, in particular, to those who have recently brought friends or family members with them to cheer on the Addicks.
“The initiative has seen us increase the number of supporters in the stadium, compared with earlier in the season, and this includes a significant number of fans we’ve welcomed as half-season ticket holders in recent weeks.
“While the initiative has been successful, we recognise it hasn’t been perfect. Not all of the free tickets that have been redeemed have been used, meaning we’ve still had empty seats on matchdays at The Valley.
“Our intention remains for us to Fill The Valley every week – most importantly, because it has a positive impact on the team, as we have seen, and it brings back the atmosphere we all want to be a part of at The Valley. Therefore, we’ll continue to explore opportunities to drive attendance, yet we understand that what happens on the pitch is the most important aspect of this. To this end, we’ve added to the squad by re-signing Chuks Aneke to the club last week, who of course scored for the Addicks in his first game back with us at the weekend, and we hope to bring in more players before the transfer window closes too.
“We are grateful to season-ticket holders who have helped us in boosting attendance figures this season. As an additional thank you, five season-ticket holders, who join in this initiative and attend our game against Fleetwood, will be randomly selected to receive an upgrade, for them and a guest, to experience a home game later this season from our popular CharltonTV Lounge.
“We want to give you all the experience of a full stadium, watching a Charlton team you can be proud of and enjoy a first class matchday experience. We’ll continue to push to reach these targets and we appreciate all of your help with this - I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at The Valley next weekend.”
Any season ticket holders unable to attend the game against Fleetwood are invited to transfer their ticket(s) to another supporter who can attend. To arrange a transfer, please email tickets@cafc.co.uk.
For the Fleetwood game, the club is also reaching out to schools across the local area, to give young people the opportunity to experience a matchday at The Valley. If there’s a school you'd like us to contact, please reach out to us at fans@cafc.co.uk.
