Having made herself first-choice goalkeeper during her debut season with the Addicks, Sophie Whitehouse signed a contract extension in March to extend her stay in SE7 until at least July 2026.
Initially joining the club on a one-year deal last summer, moving to The Valley following her departure from Lewes, the 28-year-old impressed across 19 games in all competitions.
Whitehouse kept six clean sheets, while her 95th-minute save from Newcastle United’s Beth Lumsden during the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at The Valley in April earned her the Women’s Championship Save of the Season award.
Her impressive form for the Addicks also saw her receive multiple call-ups for the Republic of Ireland squad, although she awaits her first cap.
Whitehouse, who was born in England but grew up in Kenya and Tanzania before her family settled in the USA when she was aged 9, began her football career in the USA college system, representing Columbia Lions and Santa Clara Broncos, before returning to England in 2020 when she joined Tottenham Hotspur and worked with Karen Hills for the first time.
Prior to joining the Addicks, she had already cemented herself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Women’s second tier, winning Lewes’ Owners’ Player of the Year in 2023/24, and both the Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year awards in 2022/23.
