Charlton Invicta will be holding an open training session next week, offering adults the opportunity to get involved with Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT) and Charlton’s LGBTQI+ friendly affiliated team.
Players interested in joining the team or attending a session are invited to the open training evening, which will take place at the club’s Training Ground in New Eltham (SE9 2EL) on Tuesday, February 24th. Attendees are asked to arrive at 8pm ahead of an 8.30pm start, with the session running until 10pm.
Open to adults aged 18 and over, the session welcomes players of all genders, sexual orientations, abilities and experience levels - whether you are returning to football after time away from the game or stepping onto the pitch for the first time.
Delivered in an inclusive and competitive environment, the evening will include a warm-up, fitness work, skills practice and drills, as well as small-sided games. All footballs, bibs and equipment will be provided. Players should bring boots suitable for an astro surface, their own playing kit and refreshments.
CACT Invicta were the first LGBTQI+ friendly team to be affiliated with a professional club’s Community Trust. Formally affiliated with CACT in 2017, Invicta are renowned for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within football.
Invicta Chair Gary Ginnaw said: “Our open sessions are opportunities for people to come along and enjoy a taste of what Invicta is all about.
“We have expanded a lot over the last few years and we continue to grow - our aim remains to get as many LGBTQ+ people playing football in a fun, inclusive and judgment-free space.
“I’d encourage anyone looking to get into football for the first time or back into football to give one of the sessions a chance. I gave it a chance in 2014 and I've never looked back!”
