Charlton’s women continued their impressive start to the season with another victory at The Valley on Sunday, beating Southampton 2-1.

Despite Southampton dominating possession in the first half, the hosts took off with their first shot on goal through Amelie Thestrup, before Jodie Hutton added a second after the break. The Saints clawed one back in added time, but the Addicks ultimately held on in the end.

Not much separated the two sides in the first 35 minutes until Thestrup put the reds ahead with a clever goal that caught the Saints’ keeper off guard.

After Lucy Fitzgerald nicked back possession as the visitors looked to play out from the back, the ball feel to the feet of Thestrup who unleashed a nicely-weighted effort from 25 yards, which looped over Fran Stenson to bag her first goal in Charlton colours.

10 minutes into the second half, Hutton then added to her ever-growing goal tally with a curling free-kick from outside the box to extend the lead.

As the second half continued, we saw changes for both sides, with Southampton gaining momentum and scoring in added time through Tara Bourne from close range, but ultimately the reds kept a hold on to their lead.

The Addicks are back at The Valley next Sunday in another exciting league clash, facing off against Bristol City on our annual Red, White, and Black day (KO 2pm GMT).
