Charlton held onto their spot at the top of the table with a 1-1 draw against Sheffield United at the Valley.

There wasn’t much to split the sides until Emma Taylor scored the first goal of the game in the 37th minute for the Blades with a close-range header from a corner.

The rest of the half saw a few chances for the Addicks but ultimately went into half time trailing by a goal to nil.

Karen Hills’ side entered the second half with a pair of fresh legs as Karin Muya replaced Mary McAteer, and two more subs followed in the 57th minute with Emma Bissell and Gillian Kenney replacing Fitzgerald and Thestrup.

The 60th minute saw Jodie Hutton with yet another fruitful free-kick as she bagged her third goal in two matches. The midfielder continued her confident run with another couple of shots brushing the top of the crossbar.

The Addicks very nearly saw a second when Mia Ross’ header was defended off the line, and at the other end Sophie Whitehouse continued her excellent form in goal with a diving save keeping the ball out of the top corner.

Charlton look to continue their unbeaten run of league games, entering the international break at the top of the table.

In the meantime, the reds are back in Subway League Cup action next Sunday against Portsmouth (KO 12pm BST).
