Charlton's U21 concluded the 2022/23 campaign with a disappointing 5-0 defeat to Hull City at The Valley on Tuesday.

The visitors opened the scoring in SE7 after 36 minutes. Glen Sani retrieved possession and the ball fell to Harry Wood, whose strike deflected off Nazir Bakrin and beyond Henry Molyneux.

Wood added his and Hull's second six minutes later to put the Tigers in the ascendancy at the break.

Hull, who needed to better Wigan Athletic’s result to reach the Professional Development League play-offs, came out fast in the second half and scored a quickfire double within 11 minutes of the restart.

First, Callum Jones converted Sani's pull back and then Wood completed his hat-trick with a calm finish from close range.

The young Addicks grew into the half and twice went close in the latter stages through substitute Brook Myers and captain Bakrin, though Hull soon made it five as substitute Jim Simms tapped in Wood's cross at the far post.

That goal sealed the Tigers' place in the PDL national play-offs and means Danny Senda's side finish the 2022/23 PDL2-South campaign in eighth.
