2007: The Collapse

2007: Club re-formed under CACT

2007 represented a bleak year for the club. The same day as the women lost the FA Cup final, the men’s team were relegated from the Premier League and the women’s team were disbanded. The club re-formed a few months later under the Charlton Athletic Community Trust.

2007: Relegated from the top flight

The majority of players left the club, making relegation inevitable. The club would remain with the Community Trust until 2013, when it became an independent legal entity.

2007: Paul Mortimer takes charge

Charlton began 2007/08 with a new man in charge, with former Addicks winger Paul Mortimer appointed Technical Director to oversee the entire women’s set-up.

After a slow start to the season, the Addicks started to begin to pick up some points with arguably the youngest and least experienced squad in the top flight.

The club secured several draws from Christmas onwards, however, despite a series of battling performances, it was not enough to survive and the Addicks finished bottom of the table.
