Charlton Women made it a year unbeaten in the league with a 2-0 win against Bristol City at The Valley on Sunday.
The first few minutes contained a flurry of crosses into the box but to no avail for The Addicks.
In the 13th minute, Camila Saez of the Robins went for goal from range, but a classic Sophie Whitehouse save stopped it from hitting the net. Rio Hardy was prepared to take the follow up but hit the woodwork with the rebound.
A few shots on goal followed for Charlton in the first 45, but none proved fruitful, with Katie Bradley coming closest with an effort from distance which was well held by visiting stopper Fran Bentley.
Early in the second half the Addicks were awarded a penalty when Bristol’s Marine Dafeur pulled Karin Muya down in the box. Bradley confidently sent the penalty into the bottom right-hand corner to give the Reds the lead.
Gracie Pearse followed up with a second just four minutes later, nestling a close-range shot into the bottom corner, extending Charlton’s advantage.
Katie Bradley brought it close to a third goal late on in the match, beating a number of Bristol City players in her own half before racing forwards and firing a low shot towards goal which was only just kept out by Bentley.
Eight minutes of added time brought few chances for the Robins as Charlton cruised towards the final whistle.
