Charlie Kelman surprises Hawksmoor Youth Hub

Charlie Kelman visited a family session at Charlton Athletic Community Trust's Hawksmoor Youth Hub in Thamesmead this week to give back to the local community ahead of the Christmas period, a time that can be challenging for some.

"I reached out to the Youth Hub and the club. Obviously, Christmas is right around the corner and there are some people out there who aren’t as fortunate as everyone else," explained the striker.

Kelman spent some time in The Valley Superstore ahead of his visit to Hawksmoor, generously purchasing a wide selection of 2025/26 shirts and receiving a donation of stationery kits and soft toys from the club shop.

"I met some wonderful people down at the club shop who were amazing and telling me all about the club. The club shop threw in some extra stuff which I didn’t expect and it really helped."

Club partners Reebok also helped Kelman’s efforts with two boxes full of merchandise.

"Reebok have been a massive help also. I’m just thankful to everyone who’s helped me make this happen.

"I like to do something every year, to get involved in the community. I wanted to give back and give some presents to the people who might not be as privileged to wake up on Christmas as some of us were when we were younger."

Claire Hallinan, who has been the Unit Manager at Hawksmoor Youth Hub for 14 years, expressed her gratitude towards Kelman’s initiative and generosity.

"It's been absolutely fabulous! A fabulous surprise for our families and young people. Some of them were recently able to come and watch a match, and now they can wear the kit! We're all lost for words, it’s fantastic," she said.

“We realised that it takes a village to help support families in the community and young people. Family sessions are about bringing the people together, enjoying ourselves in a safe space, having a little bit of Christmas fun."

George, a regular attendee at Hawksmoor Youth Hub for the past six years, was delighted with Kelman’s efforts to give back to the local community.

"I've been coming to the Youth Hub for about six years now, and I like to help out all the families. It was really nice to meet Charlie, and it's great that he wanted to give back," he said.
