Docherty: "Four points over two games is a big thing"

Greg Docherty interview

It was mixed emotions for Charlton captain Greg Docherty following a battling 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers at The Valley on Friday night.

The Addicks had the best chances in the game and looked the most likely until stoppage time when the visitors posed a late threat.

QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh picked up the Sky Player of the Match award, for his heroics but Thomas Kaminski was called into action late on to keep his side in the game.

Speaking to CharltonTV, Docherty said: “It was positive but frustrating at the same time. I think we had more than enough to win the game. For 90% of the game we were on top, we were good, we were aggressive. We had a lot of chances and I think their goalkeeper got the Sky Man of the Match, which I think tells you a bit about it.

“We want to be a bit more clinical, on another day we go 2-0 or 3-0 up but then you’ve got to respect your opponent. They are a strong team, we know them well. We know their striker well from last year and they’ve got some quick forwards that are dangerous and they showed that at end but TK [Kaminski] came up good with some big saves, that’s why he’s in the team.”

The result means it is four points from two games following victory at Leciester City on Saturday.

“We’ve played a different shape the last two games,” Docherty explained. “I think it’s been good, it’s been positive and I think everyone has bought into it. We’re in a good place. You go from the Millwall game and the disappointment, to get four points over two games is a big thing. There is no getting away from it, that [Millwall] was tough, but we’re in a good place with two more home games, it could be a really good point if we go and back it up in two more home games. We had a great following today and they kept us going. Overall we’re quite pleased.”

The Addicks kept a 10th clean sheet of the season and Docherty explained it is a stat his team take a lot of pride in.

“I personally love it,” he said. “I know the players love it. Charlton, we’re built on that, particularly under the manager, that’s what he’s built on. It brought us so much success last year and this year. Tonight TK made some saves but we should have been ahead. I’ll take the clean sheet all day, we’re defending like we should be at the moment and that’s the bare minimum this club expects.”

The Addicks are back in action at The Valley on Wednesday, February 11th, as they host Stoke City. Don't miss out, get your tickets now!
