Docherty: 'Shooting into the Covered End is always a joy'

Greg Docherty has lauded the Charlton fans ahead of his side's final fixture of the regular season against Burton Albion at The Valley on Saturday (KO 3pm BST).

The Addicks are unbeaten in their last 14 home games, winning 11 matches in that time, and will be looking to conclude the regular campaign on a high in front of another bumper crowd ahead of the play-offs.

"The fans have been magnificent and they've really helped get us over the line in many games," explained the skipper. "From December onwards, there's been a real turn and a real shift in vibe at the place as well. Hopefully the weather stays the same, and we can have a good day at The Valley, finish strongly and look forward to the play-offs.

"We knew that it was up to us as players to go and bring those fans back. We've done that up until this point and it will hopefully be another great atmosphere. The fans have really got us this point with the home form which has been outstanding.

"It's a really difficult place for an away player to come and play. I've experienced it before, but not probably as intense as it is just now and that's credit to them for creating such a good atmosphere. It's a collective effort from the players to the staff to the fans... everyone at the club, we're all in this together."

"I love playing at The Valley, particularly when the crowd is generating what it is at the moment," the midfielder said. "Shooting into the Covered End second half is always a joy and we always feel that we're going to score.

"It's nice walking around the stadium after and seeing the friendly faces - there's a lot of kids supporting the club, there's people that are coming back who have said they haven't been for a while and there's a whole range of age groups supporting the team.

"It's a real community club and the fanbase has really bought into this season. They're backing what we do on the pitch and it does help us get over the line, particularly when things might not be going our way."
