Gavin Carter: "You have shown what makes this club unique."

Charlton’s non-executive Chairman and lifelong Addick, Gavin Carter, provides 'The Last Word' column in Saturday's edition of Valley Review as he highlights the importance of the Charlton fans ahead of the final home game of the season.

The column can be read in full below:

As we head into our final men’s first-team fixture at The Valley this season, I wanted to take the opportunity to write to supporters and thank you for the outstanding backing you have given the team throughout the campaign.

Our away support has been exceptional all year, both in numbers and in noise, and it has been equally encouraging to see crowds at The Valley reach their highest levels in 16 seasons. As a lifelong Addick, it has been a real privilege to witness those attendances grow so quickly over the last few seasons, and to feel the connection between the team and the stands strengthening week by week.

Charlton is a special club with a proud history and an incredible supporter base. Once again this season, you have shown what makes this club unique: your loyalty, passion and willingness to stand together through every challenge, no matter how demanding.

Nearly a year ago we experienced one of the most memorable nights in recent times here at The Valley, when we faced Wycombe Wanderers in the Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final. The atmosphere that evening, the togetherness, and the sheer volume from the stands made a genuine difference on the pitch. It was a powerful reminder of what this stadium can become when everyone is pulling in the same direction.

We fought hard as a club to return to the Championship, and with two games remaining this season we all know what is required to secure our status. Today is a crucial step, and we will need the full force of The Valley behind the players from the first whistle to the last.

The journey over the last few seasons has demanded a huge amount from everyone connected with Charlton, but it has also brought real progress both on and off the pitch. That progress has only been possible because of your continued commitment, belief and support.

We’ve all enjoyed seeing Charlton back in the Championship this season. Now, together, we have one final push to make sure that is where we will be playing our football again next year.
