Jones reflects on Sheffield United victory

Nathan Jones reflected on the Addicks claiming all three points at The Valley on Saturday afternoon, with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship.

Sonny Carey's neat finish as the start of the second half was enough for Jones' side to secure a vital win.

"It was a tough game, against a side that is favourirtes to get promoted to the Premier League. Six months ago we were in the same hotel, one of us to get promoted to the Premier League, and one to get promoted into the Championship," Jones said.

"We are level on points with Sheffield United and we have taken six points off of them. But in the first 20 minutes we needed our goalkeeper to keep us in the game, because we did not play well enough.

"Then when the sending offs came, we were able to control the game more, and we showed one bit of quality and got the goal. We knew we had to make positive substitutions. The goal we scored from was wonderful and I am pleased with three points, the three points was huge today."

The win moved the Addicks up to 18th in their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship.

Jones added: "We are new to this level, we have to grow, and we are going to need everyone. This is a monster of a league, one of the best in the world, one of the toughest leagues in Europe, and we needed three points today.

"When I came to the football club we were facing League Two in the face, and now we are competing in the Championship and we have risen at a meteoric level.

"It's great to have back to back home games. The away trips have been tough, we need to dust ourselves down tomorrow, and we go again Tuesday."

The Addicks return to Sky Bet Championship action on Tuesday, when they host Derby County at The Valley. Don’t miss out, get your tickets now.
