Addicks hit 10 in FA Cup win over Swindon

Karin Muya and Jodie Hutton Charlton Athletic Women's Football Club

Charlton's women showed a comfortably dominant display on Sunday afternoon as they stormed into the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 10-0 win at home against Swindon Town.

The Addicks took the lead in the 14th minute when Jodie Hutton fired one home and nearly followed with a second just a few minutes later when Charlton’s Karin Muya made a powerful attempt from range that flew just above the crossbar.

The reds continued to dominate and shortly doubled the lead with a calm finish by Amelie Thestrup, before following three minutes later with her second, bringing the Addicks’ lead to three in under seven minutes.

As the clock ticked, Swindon began to settle into the match with Annie Colston firing in a curled ball which was ultimately caught safely in the gloves of Sophie Whitehouse.

The half ended squarely in Charlton’s favour when Muya fired home a volley, delivered into the box with pinpoint accuracy by Hutton to make it four.

Charlton made three subs for the second half, introducing our new additions Lizzie Waldie and Katie Lockwood who stepped onto the pitch along with Mary McAteer.

The Addicks continued to dominate, with McAteer, Lucy Fitzgerald and Thestrup firing across attempts on goal before Keira Flannery rattled the post with a great strike. But it was our number 22 Thestrup that ultimately bagged her hat-trick with a cooly taken penalty, before Emma Bissell made it six for the reds just two minutes later.

Debutant Lockwood made an impression on her very first game in Charlton colours, sending a powerful, low effort strike into the bottom right-hand corner from the edge of the box, before securing a brace with a second shortly after.

Gillian Kenney and Emma Bissell finally closed it out with the final goals of the game, making it a 10-0 win for the Addicks.

The draw for the fifth round is due to take place tomorrow on Monday, January 19th at 7pm GMT, and will be streamed on Adobe Women's FA Cup Youtube Channel. Charlton Athletic will be represented by ball number one.
