TEAM NEWS

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Nathan Jones confirmed that Reece Burke and Matty Godden are the Addicks' only absentees going into this weekend's season-opener.

The visitors will be without Mattie Pollock (hamstring), Caleb Wiley (back), Giorgi Chakvetadze (toe) and Pierre Dwomoh (thigh), while Edo Kayembe is available again following a calf complaint.

THE OPPOSITION

The Hornets finished 14th in the Sky Bet Championship last terms, picking up 16 wins, nine draws and 21 losses across the season.

Paulo Pezzolano’s men finalised their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win against Spanish second tier side Deportivo de La Coruña at Vicarage Road.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The two sides have gone toe-to-toe on 66 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 23, the Hornets 20 and the remaining 23 meetings resulting in draws.

Charlton ran out 1-0 victors when the sides last met at The Valley in September 2014 thanks to Yoni Buyens' early spot-kick.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Martin will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Carl Fitch-Jackson, while Alex Chilowicz fills the Fourth Official role.
