Nathan Jones on a busy few days in the transfer market

Nathan Jones has reflected on a busy couple of days in the transfer market.

Following the additions of Harry Clarke, Lyndon Dykes and Luke Chambers earlier in the window, the Addicks have added three more signings this week, while a number of players have departed the club both permanently and on loan.

Academy graduate Ashley Maynard-Brewer completed a permanent move to Dundee United, bringing an end to his 10-and-a-half-year association with Charlton Athletic. The move gave the Addicks the opportunity to bring in Tiernan Brooks from Gateshead.

Jones explained: "Ash has been here a long time and he's been a wonderful servant to this football club. We wish him all the best and we thank him for everything. He has been a wonderful player and I can’t speak highly enough about him, but he's been frustrated, he wants to play and we understand that.

"In [Tiernan Brooks], we have brought in a younger goalkeeper that we can develop, who can be here for a long time and will add competition to the other two."

Rob Apter has joined Sky Bet League One outfit Bolton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season.

"Rob wasn’t getting the minutes that he wanted and for him to keep moving forward he needs to have game time," the gaffer said.

"This is the first season he has had at Championship level, and we had to make a decision. We've allowed him to go out on loan to play games at a real good football club, with the intention that he comes back here in a better place."

Jayden Fevrier signed for the Addicks on loan from Stockport County and Tanto Olaofe was loaned back to Edgeley Park until the end of the season.

"Jayden provides cover at left wing-back and real competition in the area that Rob has vacated," Jones continued. "So we feel we've done a good bit of business.

"Tanto was part of the Jayden deal, that was able to facilitate those things. I didn’t want to let Tanto go, I think he will impact here but it's just how much. When we have Tanto, Miles [Leaburn], [Lyndon] Dykes, TC [Tyreece Campbell], [Matty] Godden and [Charlie] Kelman, it's too many to keep moving forward so something had to give, and the same with Rob. I can’t keep them all here and none of them get game time. These players are ours, we have invested in money in them and they have long-term contracts, so everyone will develop at a different rate."

Conor Coady moved to SE7 on loan from Wrexham until the end of the season, and Jones believes the defender's leadership experience will serve the team well.

He said: "Conor is a short-term fix in terms of bringing that leadership and Premier League and top Championship quality to the football club and we're really happy because we need that."

Onel Hérnandez and Jérôme Roussillon have both departed the club following the expiration of their short-term contracts.

"Onel's been injured for the last four, five weeks," Jones said. "It's meant that his opportunities have been curtailed, but the lads love him. The lads loved Jérôme, he was a popular figure - it's just he hadn't played football so to put him into a Championship game was unfair and would've stretched us. Trust me, we wanted to do it because it was a position that we just couldn't fill.

"Onel started really well and then just picked up an injury because, again, when you take a free agent he hadn't played, he hadn't trained at the intensity that we do and so on. He was unfortunate with that. We wish both Onel and Jérôme all the best for the future."
