Charlton’s U18s got back to winning ways with a resounding victory over local rivals Millwall at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.
After a goalless first 45, four second-half strikes, including two penalties, were enough to claim maximum points against the Lions to maintain their lead at the top of the Professional Development League table.
Ellis McMillan opened the scoring on 51 minutes, firing firmly into the bottom right-hand corner from the edge of the box after being threaded in by a neat through ball.
The lead was doubled with 20 minutes left on the clock and in some style. Substitute Michael Mylona picked up possession in his own half and proceeded to make his way towards goal, beating a number of blue shirts before rolling a shot into the bottom corner from 18 yards to round off a fine solo effort.
It would soon be three when Mylona was felled in the box five minutes later, leaving Kayode Peterkin to step up and dispatch his penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way for 3-0.
The young Addicks were able to put a gloss on the scoreline with another penalty seven minutes from time. This time it was won by Bradley Tagoe when he was chopped down after bursting into the box with an excellent run. Peterkin stepped up and make no mistake, once again sending the Millwall custodian the wrong way.
Jason Pearce’s side will return to action on Saturday when they host AFC Bournemouth at Sparrows Lane (KO 12pm GMT).
