George Jones reports
Jake Forster-Caskey always believed that Charlton could come away with three points from Bolton on Saturday, even after they went down to 10 men.
The Addicks were made a man light after just 12 minutes when Lewis Page saw red and they fell behind 60 seconds later when Zach Clough curled home from a free-kick.
But the plucky Addicks rallied and levelled through Patrick Bauer before Nathan Byrne completed the turnaround on the stroke of half time.
Both strikes were assisted by debutant Forster-Caskey, who’s side defended brilliantly in the second period to secure the win, and he says that they never lost faith.
“You always think you can do it,” he said “You don’t become a professional without that mentality but we’re all humans and we knew that when we went down to 10 that it was going to be really tough.
“We dug in, we all walked back in [to the changing room] knackered but we all had smiles on our faces.
“It was three points but it almost felt like more because of the early sending off and going behind. We came back and showed great character.
“Since the day I came here, I’ve seen how close the group is, and I think that showed at the weekend. That’s five unbeaten now so we want to go on a run and see where we can get.”
January signing Forster-Caskey has been at the club for almost a month now and he is enjoying his time in SE7.
He said: “I knew a couple of the players here and the manager was a massive reason why I came here. I worked under him last year and I think he’s an amazing coach and an amazing young manager.
“He’s got aspirations to go higher with this club and so have I. Hopefully I can help Charlton to push up the table and the ultimate goal is promotion.”
