REACTION | Robinson thanks players following Scunthorpe win

Tom Rubashow reports from The Valley

Karl Robinson thanked his players, the fans and club captain Johnnie Jackson following his side’s dramatic 2-1 home victory over Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening.

He said: “I want to say thank you to the players. I’m honest and sometimes with that you say things that people don’t like but I think every single player tonight wore the Charlton shirt with pride. The players were immense and the fans were brilliant. It was a difficult night to get here with the transport problems, we had to delay kick-off by 15 minutes but hopefully everyone that came into the stadium this evening will go home very happy. That’s for them and that’s from the players to them.

“The players attitude was what we were looking for. All the players that went on the pitch put in a tremendous work ethic and desire to put a performance in and I can’t thank them enough. They deserve exactly what they got this evening.”

The Manager reserved special praise for Johnnie Jackson, who gave the Addicks a 33rd-minute lead.

Robinson explained: “He’s a rock for what we are trying to do. He helps me with the growth of the young players. He helps me with the discipline of the team. He helps me with the knowledge of this great club.

“We did a motivational video before the game and the last slide was Jacko scoring a goal and sliding on his knees. I’m so proud for him. He’s a tremendous person, I can’t thank him enough for what he’s done since I walked in the door.”

Robinson added that Ricky Homes “ran himself into the ground” and praised Declan Rudd’s wondersave onto the post in the 63rd minute: “What a save that was, an amazing save.”

The manager revealed that he couldn’t watch Tony Watt’s 90th-minute penalty which ended up securing Charlton three points.

He said: “I couldn’t watch the penalty. It has been a difficult few days for everyone. We’ve played well in some games and not got what we’ve deserved and we’ve played badly in some games and got exactly what we deserved. Today we played well and got exactly what we deserved.”
