Opera singer to perform at anniversary game celebration

In a return to a Charlton tradition, opera singer Martin Toal will perform before kick-off at Charlton’s Back at The Valley anniversary game against Portsmouth on December 9th.

Martin Toal has sung at The Valley before Premier League games and also sung to celebrate Charlton’s promotion to the Championship in 2011/12.

He will sing three songs before kick-off on Saturday.

The confirmation comes following a meeting between the club, its community trust and Fans’ Forum last week.

Charlton Athletic club secretary Chris Parkes said: “We’d bounced around the idea internally of having an opera singer and what was great was that at the meeting the suggestion came from fans without any prompting.

“I can remember opera singers performing before many Charlton games and it certainly gives the sense of a special occasion.”

To celebrate the anniversary and 25 years since the formation of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust, the club is donating 25% of home ticket revenue from the game along with 25% of matchday programme sales to the charity.

Tickets for Saturday’s match against Portsmouth remain on sale, adult prices begin at £20.

Seats are on restricted sale meaning that supporters need to be on the club’s ticketing database and have a purchase history in order to buy. To purchase online, log in to your account, refresh the page and the match will then appear. To buy online, please click here.
