Charlton celebrated University of Greenwich Day on Saturday at The Valley

Saturday's match between Charlton and Barnsley was an impressive 2-0 win for the Addicks and it was also the annual partnership day between the club and the University of Greenwich.

A chance to celebrate the partnership and to promote the opportunities available to students at the club, the partnership day is a highlight of the university calendar, and over 100 Greenwich students attended to cheer on their local team.

For Saturday's match, students from the men's football, women's football and cheerleading societies took part in presenting the man of the match award and a former student who undertook an internship at Charlton also commentated during the game.

Meike Imberg, President of Greenwich Students' Union, said: "The partnership day is a real celebration of the work we do with Charlton throughout the year, sharing facilities, providing work placements and showcasing the benefits of sport for health. It's great to see so many students coming along to enjoy the game, and gaining a valuable insight into the workings of a professional football club at the same time."

Ravi Patel, Charlton Athletic Commercial Manager, said: "We are grateful for the important work the University of Greenwich students do at the club and Saturday was the perfect occasion to showcase some of their hard work and to highlight our partnership.

"We were also delighted to see so many students in attendance and we hope they enjoyed the game and that everyone went home happy with the three points. We look forward to welcoming them back to The Valley."

Greenwich also won this year's annual Charlton v Homophobia football tournament at The Valley this summer for the third year running. A record six LGBTQ+ friendly teams took part in the tournament.
