Aneke on pre-season, his teammates, joining Charlton and his targets for next season

Chuks Aneke made a big impression during Charlton's 4-0 friendly victory at Dagenham & Redbridge on Wednesday night.

The forward spoke to the press following the game and the full interview is on Valley Pass.

Below are some talking points:

On pre-season…

“Pre-seasons are tough, but all pre-seasons are tough. This time of year is tough; you have to get running in the legs. It’s been a tough pre-season, playing two games in two days is not easy, but it’s this time in the season and you have to do it.”

On his new teammates...

“You work out each other, especially playing these games, you start to work out the runs he (Lyle Taylor) makes, and you get an overall feel for each other. I’m a new player in the squad and I want to get the connections with people and start from now.

“I’m raring to go to try and see what I can do – the same with the other boys. There’s talent all over our squad and we’re hungry to succeed.

“There’s a good group of boys here, everyone’s been warm and friendly and you can see it’s a close squad and it’s been a good couple of weeks here. I just want to settle down and go into the season and see what happens.”

On what brought him to Charlton…

“There was a lot of things: the club is in the Championship now; it’s a London club, I’m a London boy. The Gaffer here – Lee is a well-known person that everybody knows, so there’s a lot of reasons why the move to Charlton was very attractive.”

On targets for next season…

“I haven’t played in the Championship before, so I just want to see if I can play and do what I’ve been doing. So, I don’t really have any targets, just to play football and do my best to influence games as much as a possibly can."
