DONE DEAL | Jonny Williams returns to The Valley

Jonny Williams has become the latest Wembley hero to return to The Valley after penning a permanent deal with the club.

The attacking midfielder spent the second half of the season with the Addicks and made an influential substitute appearance in Charlton’s 2-1 play-off final win against Sunderland that sealed promotion to the Championship.

The 25-year-old Wales international put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option of a second year.

Williams becomes the club’s sixth signing of a busy summer transfer window following the arrivals of Macauley Bonne, Chuks Aneke, fellow Wales international teammate Tom Lockyer, fellow Wembley hero Ben Purrington and Ben Amos.

Williams said: "I’m over the moon to be back with this group of lads, the manager and the staff. I feel at home here, so I’m delighted to sign and I’m really excited about playing for this team in the Championship."

Lee Bowyer said: "I’m delighted to be able to get him back. Jonny, to be fair to him, has dropped his wage a hell of a lot to come here and I’m grateful to him for doing that and I think that just shows how much he enjoyed last season with us. Everyone made him feel welcome from the fans to the players. It’s a perfect fit."

Head of Recruitment Steve Gallen added: “Everyone is really pleased to get Jonny back. I know the fans will be as well, the staff, players, everybody. He’s really popular in the changing room, really popular amongst everybody so we’re really, really pleased to do this one.”

Kent-born Williams came through the ranks at Palace and made 70 senior appearances at Selhurst Park, as well as taking in loan spells at Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, Milton Keynes Dons and, most recently, Sunderland. He made 19 appearances for the Addicks after signing for the club at the start of January

Following the signing, Williams, Bowyer and Gallen spoke to Valley Pass. The interviews will be on Valley Pass later today. You can sign up for Valley Pass for just £6.50 a month or £60 for the season. To sign-up, click here.
