Godden reflects on Bristol City defeat

Matty Godden spoke to CharltonTV following the Addicks’ narrow defeat to Bristol City on Friday afternoon.

The striker made his return after a number of weeks out, coming off the bench for the final 11 minutes of Charlton’s 2-1 loss at The Valley.

“It’s frustrating," he said. "Obviously, we didn’t start the game well. We fell behind, but like we do, we grew into the game.

“It was probably the first 10 minutes of both halves where we weren’t good enough and it has cost us the game.

“We rallied round for the last 20 minutes and we should have definitely scored and had a point out of it.”

Godden came close to levelling the scoring for Charlton, only to be denied from close range by an excelent save from Bristol City's Radek Vitek.

He explained: “I thought I hit it well, but that is my bread and butter, I should score, I know that I should score everyone knows that I should score, so it’s disappointing.”

“I am really pleased to be back out there. I have used the last four weeks after the little setback that I had, to get myself into really good shape. I feel good for that after the 20 minutes or so I had there today.

“It’s now about building from here and hopefully picking up some points along the way.

“I can’t thank the fans enough for how they have been and it is just a shame that I couldn’t put that goal in at the end and run off to celebrate with them.

"I want to get us over the line as quick as we can and I can, and it is something I am looking forward to the next month ahead, to have an impact.”

The Addicks return to action at The Valley on Saturday, Aprill 11th, as they host Preston North End.
