Godden: 'We want to put on a show'

Matty Godden wants Charlton to put on a show at The Valley on Friday in front what is set to be the highest Easter home crowd since 2009.

The Addicks can guarantee the minimum of a place in the Sky Bet League One play-offs with a victory against Northampton Town.

"I actually said to the lads that I noticed a difference in the attendance when we were coming out for the Huddersfield game," said the striker. "It just shows that if we can get everyone pulling in one direction then we can achieve unbelievable memories as a club, and that's what we want to do. It's nice to see the fans are coming."

Charlton are unbeaten in their last 13 Valley outings, winning 10 of those to catapult themselves into the promotion picture.

"I think it's going to be a completely different game to what we saw around Christmas," explained Godden. "It's one that we need to be well up for to continue what we've been doing at The Valley. We want to put on a show because the fans are going to come out in their numbers to back us, especially for the last two. It's important that we start front-footed."

Following Nathan Jones' EFL League One Manager of the Season nomination, Godden lauded his boss and recalled a story from last summer.

"I knew that I'd enjoy working under the gaffer when I first came in," he smiled. "I've never been presented with something before you come and sign, but the moment I met the gaffer he sat me in his office and showed me a presentation of what I'm going to bring to his side, where he's going to help me and what he's going to do for me.

"He showed me all of my best bits and I was taken aback by that because I've never had that as a player before with previous managers. I knew that I was going to get on well with him and enjoy working under him. I've thoroughly enjoyed my first year."
