Jones: 'The level of performance was excellent'

Nathan Jones was thoroughly pleased with the level of performance from his side, as they earned a point against the league leaders Coventry City.

“I thought it was a real good Championship match, both sides tried to win it, they are top of the league, and they have an excellent manager,” he said.

“The character shown by the boys and the level of performance I was really pleased with and encouraged by."

“We had chances and momentum in the game, and we carried that into the second half, and then the break in play killed us a little bit, where we lost a bit of impetus.

“The level of performance was great, and it was a really good Championship game.”

Joe Rankin-Costello netted his first goal for the Addicks, to help secure a point at The Valley.

“Joe has had to bide his time, he has had to wait, and he put in a big shift today.  He was outstanding, he’s a clever player, and he is starting to show what we paid money for.

“We were 1-0 down to the league leaders in two minutes, but the level of desire and character was there, and that’s all I can ask for.”

The draw comes ahead of Sunday's trip to Blackburn Rovers.

“You can get punished for minor errors in the Championship and that has been a big learning curve for us,” the gaffer added.

“But we need to keep the level of performance, we have to maintain it. We have another important game in two and a half days.”
