Jones: "When The Valley is like that it's unbelievable"

Nathan Jones celebrates

Nathan Jones felt his side very much deserved the three points they picked up against Stoke City at The Valley on Wednesday.

Substitute Tyreece Campbell scored the only goal as the Addicks kept an 11th clean sheet of the season.

“I’m really delighted that we’ve had that win,” Jones told CharltonTV. “I thought the performance merited it as well. We’ve had more clear-cut chances, we should have been ahead at half-time. You do feel like that you might not get the goal, it will peter out, or they might nick one because the Championship is brutal like that.

“I felt we defended superbly well tonight for the clean sheet. I felt we created enough chances to win the game and I’m delighted in the manner that we did. It took a game changer in TC to win us the game.

“These are a good side, we’re coming up against good sides week in, week out. What I’m really happy and proud of is that we kept at it and kept that belief. When we did make positive changes, they were to try and win the game and invariably we did.”

The win takes the Addicks seven points clear of the relegation zone and extends their unbeaten streak to three.

Jones added: “We’ve been good at home, we give them stuff to get behind. At times tonight I think some will have been a little bit frustrated but we all realise that we’re in a tough league and there is no God-given right that we’ll just be fluent and run over teams.

“We realise what kind of team we are but we’ve given them something to get behind tonight. They’ve seen a team that works hard, defends their goal. We are evolving, we’re in an evolution process. We are seven months into our Championship evolution. I understand a lot of people might want us to go quicker, we have to go steadily and make sure that we keep developing as a Championship club. I feel like we’re doing that and the fans were brilliant, especially when we scored – the noise! When The Valley is like that it is unbelievable.”
