The 27-year-old’s free-kick was glanced home by Lloyd Jones to double the U’s advantage at Vale Park.

Elsewhere in the EFL, Charlie Kirk played 75 minutes of Burton Albion’s goalless draw away at Cheltenham Town and Alex Gilbey played the entirety of Stevenage’s 1-1 at Northampton Town.

Academy graduate Deji Elerewe continued his fine form for Bromley, who claimed a comprehensive 4-0 win at home to Solihull Moors in the National League.

Richard Chin made an impressive full debut for National League South side Dartford, helping the Kent side to an emphatic 4-0 victory against Dulwich Hamlet at Princes Park.

Meanwhile, Ryan Viggars came on after 17 minutes for Maidstone United who fell to a 4-0 defeat against Boreham Wood, a result which confirmed the Stones’ relegation from the fifth tier.

Elsewhere in non-League, U21 duo Sahid Kamara and Mack Reilly both started Corinthian Casuals’ 1-0 triumph at Potters Bar Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division and Jeremy Santos came on as a second-half substitute as Tonbridge Angels were condemned to a 4-0 reverse at Oxford City in National League South.

Charlie Barker and Dylan Gavin, on loan at Wealdstone and Welling United respectively, both saw their fixtures postponed owing to waterlogged pitches.
