MATCH PREVIEW | Oxford United v Charlton Athletic

Oxford United match preview

The Addicks turn their focus from league action to the Adobe's Women's FA Cup as they travel to face Oxford United on Sunday, February 4th (KO 2pm GMT).

It has been a busy week for Karen Hills' team, with this being their third match in a week. Taking four points from six against Durham and Ipswich is a great return during the busy schedule and keeps Charlton at the top of WSL 2.

Now they have a Fifth Round tie in the FA Cup against a game Oxford United before the international break, with the Addicks looking to carry the momentum into there.

Charlton Athletic

The draw at Ipswich on Wednesday was earned in terrible conditions. The team rallied after going 1-0 down to a penalty after 18 minutes and did not stop until the final whistle. The towering header from Gillian Kenney in the 83rd minute was no less than Charlton deserved, with each point being valuable as the season heads into the latter stages.

So far in the FA Cup, the Addicks won a competitive game against Watford 3-2, before an emphatic victory against Swindon 10-0 in the previous round. This is the first time the team are back in the Fifth Round since the 2023/24 season where they lost to Tottenham 1-0. This year, Hills' side will aim to go one further.

Oxford United

Oxford United Women play their football in the FA Women's National League South, the league just below WSL 2. They currently sit fourth in the table, having most recently won 1-0 against Bournemouth. Overall, they have only lost once in their last nine games, winning the other eight, so are in a run of good form.

The U's started in the FA Cup's first round winning on penalties against Hashtag United. Since then they have beat Luton Town, Plymouth Argyle and Middlesborough respectively, putting together a deep run for the team.

Head-to-Head

The only time Charlton and Oxford have met in a competitive match was in the Fourth Round of the 2020/21 FA Cup. On that day, the Addicks came through for the win in extra time thanks to a 107th minute goal from Katie Godden.

Kick-off is at 2pm GMT and will be played at The MGroup Stadium in Oxford.

The next time you will be able to see the Addicks in action again at The Valley is on Sunday, March 15th when they face Sunderland in the WSL 2(KO 2pm GMT).
