Charlton's U18s are looking forward to taking on Hull City in their PDL play-off semi-final on Saturday, May 9th (KO 3pm BST).
U18s Lead Coach Jason Pearce, first-year scholar Ed Thomas, and second-year scholar Phoenix Valentine all spoke to CharltonTV ahead of their semi-final clash at The Valley.
The young Addicks have enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning the Professional Development League 2 - South title, securing a place in the league’s national play-offs and reaching the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.
"It has been a good learning year for the boys, they have learnt from last season," said Pearce.
"They have hit the ground running and had a fantastic season. A few of them have had opportunities in the U21s which is good for them, and we just want to finish the season off now."
"I would say that we have had a successful season as the southern league winners, we have done well in the FA Youth Cup, we got to the fifth round, having beaten big teams like Liverpool. They have all been good experiences this season," second-year scholar Valentine explained.
Meanwhile, first-year scholar Thomas added: "I think if you look at where we started at the beginning of the season to where we are now, there is a big difference. I think it shows a lot of hard work and desire in training,"
The winners of Saturday's tie will meet Wigan Athletic, who defeated Millwall in the other semi-final, in the Professional Development League play-off final.
“Playing at The Valley in front of friends and family will be a nice occasion, and it gives us a chance to show what we can do,” continued Thomas.
Valentine was similarly measured in his approach to the fixture, saying: “I’m looking forward to the game, but it’s important not to make too much of it. We just need to focus on playing our football.”
Pearce, meanwhile, shared the same view. "For me, nothing changes going into the game, yes it is the semi-final, a lot of the players have played in big games. We have to approach it in exactly the same mindset as we have done all season."
Supporters can back Pearce’s side on Saturday, with tickets available to purchase online here and from the ticket office on the day.
