WOMEN'S TEAM | Addicks eyeing more silverware ahead of Sunday's League Cup final

Steve Adamson reports

The Charlton Athletic women’s team will be looking to claim their second piece of silverware of the season on Sunday when they face Spurs Ladies in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup final.

The clash against the North Londoners will be the third meeting between the two sides in as many games, and First-Team Coach Riteesh Mishra is looking forward to the occasion.

“It’s going to be a tough one and I think it’s going to be another great game,” he said.

“Every game we have played against them has had a different feel, but the same competitive edge, and this is arguably the biggest match between the two sides.”

The match will take place at 2pm on Sunday at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium.

Mishra said: “I’ve been looking forward to the game for a while and I know the players have too.”

“It’s fantastic that it’s going to be showcased in Stevenage, so we would love people to come down and watch to not only support the club but support women’s football in general.”

The game will be the fifth encounter between the two sides this season, with the scores currently level at two wins apiece. The Addicks were victorious in the last meeting at the end of April, where they won the Capital Cup final.

Sunday’s match continues on from an impressive April for the women, who recorded four victories out of five.

The results didn’t go unnoticed with the Head Coach picking up the FA Women’s Premier League Manager of the Month award.

Mishra thanked the staff for the award but credited it to the mental strength of the players.

He said: “I’ve said previously, it’s been a difficult season and April’s all been about the girls’ character.”

“Their ability to bounce back has been superb - twice coming from behind to beat the league champions [Spurs Ladies], and being victorious in the Capital Cup final.

“Although the award is good for me, it’s recognition of how well the girls have done over the last few months.”

The FA Women’s Premier League Cup final takes place at 2pm on Sunday, May 7th at the Lamex Stadium in Stevenage. Tickets are available on the day and priced at £5 adults, £2.50 U16s and over 65s and £1 under 10s.
