COLUMN | Fan Adviser Lucy Bishop on her first month in the role

Lifelong Addick Lucy Bishop was appointed as the club's Fan Adviser in early April and in the first of her monthly columns she reflects on her first few weeks in the role.

It’s been a month since I had the honour of accepting the role of Fan Adviser and I would like to thank fellow fans that have been in touch with well-wishes, thoughts and suggestions. It really is a testament to this great club that we have such a passionate and enthusiastic set of supporters.

One of the things that has really struck me this month is that those great fans can be found in all four corners of the globe. As well as supporters in London and further afield in the UK, I’ve had great conversations with supporters in Germany, Sweden, North America and those on overseas postings in the Armed Forces. It is certainly true that ‘many miles have we travelled’, but we can see from the fantastic season ticket sales this week that nothing compares to being at The Valley.

Over the last month I’ve had some really encouraging meetings with the club’s management team as well as an initial chat with the fantastic joint chairs of the new Youth Advisory Group – Millie and Sam – about how we will work together. I’m now busy looking at how we improve fan engagement, particularly in terms of the Fans’ Forum, taking into account what has and hasn’t worked before, and I’d welcome hearing thoughts from supporters on this.

There are exciting things to come both on and off the pitch; personally, I’m looking forward to being back in the Covered End cheering on the lads, as well as speaking to as many of you as possible. But until we’re back in the stands, please do contact me with your ideas, thoughts and feelings on fanadviser@cafc.co.uk or follow @CAFCFanAdviser.
