Dykes : "The celebration was for my son on his birthday"

-

Goalscorer Lyndon Dykes revealed that his celebration in Tuesday evening’s 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion was dedicated to his son on his eighth birthday.

The Scotland international raced through in the 70th minute at The Hawthorns to finish through the legs of the Baggies’ keeper and earn the Addicks a 1-1 draw.

With the ball hitting the net, he immediately ran to the travelling faithful and posed his hands in a ’T’ symbol to celebrate his strike.

“The celebration was for my son, because it’s his birthday today,” explained Dykes.

“He’s actually at home ill, so he’s not too well. He’s been a bit upset because he’s not been at school with his friends on his eighth birthday and he told me that I had to score today and do a ’T’ celebration, so that was for him. His name is Tiime so it was 'T' for Tiime.”

“It was a great ball from Kayno (Kayne Ramsay) and, obviously, in that moment I just wanted to hit the back of the net and take that opportunity because it wasn’t a game full of opportunities, so I had to be clinical with it,” he added.

“I’m feeling really good and really happy that I’m here and I think that’s showing on the pitch. I was confident when I was running through and it was a great feeling hitting the net and running over to the fans.”

The Addicks are next in action at The Valley on Saturday, February 28th when they host Wrexham in the Sky Bet Championship. Click here to purchase your tickets.
