Josh, 7, progresses through to Charlton Athletic academy

Seven-year-old Josh Hunt has become the latest young person to benefit from Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT’s) pathway into the Charlton Athletic academy.

Josh attended CACT’s holiday football course at the Sporting Club Thamesmead venue. Having impressed CACT coaches on the course, Josh was recommended to the Advanced Centre, a 10-week programme where players are coached by UEFA A and B licence coaches, working to a specialised Academy-designed curriculum.

Josh participated in a tournament at the Advanced Centre and his ability was clear to be seen, with coaches giving him the opportunity through to Charlton Athletic’s pre-academy.

Josh’s mother, Claire, is delighted for her son. She said:

“Joshua attended of CACT’s holiday courses, which he thoroughly enjoyed, each day he would come home buzzing and show us what he had done and learnt that day.

“Following the holiday course, Joshua was invited to attend the Advanced Centre. He was so excited to be given the opportunity to develop his skills.

“At the Advanced Centre tournament Joshua was asked to attend the Charlton pre-academy.

“Joshua can’t wait to get stuck in and do what he loves most: playing football, learning and developing. He is thoroughly enjoying being part of Charlton Athletic Football Club.”

Bradley Marshall, CACT’s Senior Football & Sports Development Officer, said:

“At CACT we have an excellent relationship with the Club’s scouting team and academy staff; together we work to give opportunities to those players who attend CACT programmes, and Josh is a perfect example of this.

“We are delighted for Josh and can’t wait to see him develop at the CAFC academy.”
